Rest & Play

Two of my favourite words! Rest and Play. xxx Particularly when my life is very busy and I am feeling tired. When I take the time to rest and to play, I am restored, and I feel happier and healthier.

Rest can be taking a whole day at home. No phone calls, no housework, nothing much at all. Just resting and being mindful of my body, mind and soul. When I listen to my body and respond, I always feel more relaxed and revitalised. I take time to sleep, take naps, stretch, massage my feet and my hands, soak in the bath, do some slow movement to beautiful music. When I listen to my mind and what it needs, I usually read something uplifting and do some morning pages and journaling. Think peaceful and loving thoughts. When I listen to my soul I love to meditate, be silent, listen for guidance. Rest can also be taking the time to stop and notice nature around me, take some deep breaths and pause for a few minutes. Rest can also be sitting in a cafe and reading a favourite book. There are many ways I bring rest into my daily routine.

Play for me is my creative practice. I love to doodle, colour in, draw, paint, dance and collage. I come alive. I also love spending playtime with my grandchildren, especially when I can get messy with paints. Playtime is also doing fun things with my friends, with lots of laughter and joy.

I feel nourished and nurtured when I give myself the gifts of rest and play.

How do you bring rest and play into your life?
