
I was woken up this morning by the sounds of a house being demolished a few streets away. Yes, a few streets away. The sound was so loud and disturbing. I live in a block of units and there is a lot of space around my unit, which I love, but this also means that sounds are magnified.
How do I find my peace with all the noise going on! Well, it wasn’t all that easy this morning, I was getting more and more annoyed. Finally, I brought my attention back to my breath and started to relax my body and my thoughts. I moved into my heart and connected with the peace within me that is always present. After a few minutes I noticed that not only was I feeling relaxed but the noise outside had stopped – ah, peace at last. Well, only briefly from the outside, but for the peace within, that is my choice.
As I write this it is nearly noon and the noise outside has been ongoing for most of the morning but just now it has stopped. Funny that isn’t it! As I give my attention to peace inside myself I also affect my exterior world. Silence is golden. I breathe and relax and savour the moments of deep connection within and without.
